Teen Critical After Fall In Circle Centre Mall

A 16-year-old boy in Indianapolis for the FFA convention was in critical condition Thursday after he fell three stories inside Circle Centre Mall, police said.
Phillip Caler, 16, of Booker, Texas, was sitting on a handrail on the third story on the west end of the downtown mall near Carson Pirie Scott when he slipped and fell, hitting the second-floor railing before landing face-down on the lower level just before 3 p.m., said Sgt. Paul Thompson."I think there were some people who were pretty shook up," Thompson said. "I saw at least one other person being administered oxygen, so it was a pretty tragic event for some of the witnesses."

Caler was listed in critical condition at Methodist Hospital. FFA officials said doctors indicated that the next 72 hours will be critical."Phillip's family, fellow chapter members and the small town of Booker, northeast of Amarillo, are profoundly grateful for the outpouring of thoughts and prayers from FFA members, the city of Indianapolis and supporters all across the country," said a release from the organization Thursday night.A Circle Centre Mall spokeswoman, who refused to give 6News her name, said the mall had no comment on the incident. Simon Malls spokesman Les Morris later said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.”Police said foul play was not suspected.Watch 6News and refresh this page for updates
